Jorge Lorenzo on frustrating 1st night in Qatar: “Pol has more or less the same tyres as me and he went 0.6s faster, so he demonstrated that you can at least go as fast as him. But I never had such a bad feeling with the tyres from my debut in 2008, especially in the long corners. When I open the throttle I lose the rear like I don’t have traction control but when you see on the data the traction control is working a lot and that means the rear tyre doesn’t have any grip compared to the previous one when you accelerate, especially on the edge. It is very difficult to improve your lap time. It is difficult because I already feel like I am on the limit now.”

Same bad feeling as Sepang
“Very similar.”

You spoke to Bridgestone after just 3 laps, what did you say?
“I told them I don’t have grip, even in the centre of the tyre you don’t feel the same as last year. And when you enter the corner and accelerate you don’t have grip because the rear starts to spin and pump and doesn’t drive. It is a bit dangerous because you want to open the throttle aggressive but after 3-4 laps when the tyre starts to drop a lot, you can make a highside. It is not just the performance from last year but also a little bit the safety.”

Disappointed tyres got changed after no complaints last year
“In general it is much worse. Maybe for the Honda it is not so bad because they have a different bike and riding style with less corner speed. For the Yamaha it is worse and for my style a little bit worse than Valentino.”

Solution
“I think everyone hopes to receive another type of tyre.”
