Shailene Woodley interview in Glamour UK April 2014 Issue:

“Right now, I’m practising the art of not caring what people think of me,” announces Shailene Woodley. “I used to be a people pleaser, but now I beat to the rhythm of my own drum.”
She’s certainly not your average 22 year old in Hollywood. Starting out in The OC, she made the jump to film, wowing in 2011’s The Descendants, alongside George Clooney.
Since then she’s made a point of wearing little or no make-up on the red carpet and never buys new clothes. “I became an environmentalist as a teenager and now it’s a lifestyle. I buy from thrift or vintage stores. I’ve been chatting to Livia Firth [eco fashion queen and wife of Colin] and I’d like my own eco line one day.”

This month, she stars in Divergent, about a future society divided into ‘factions’. Her character, Tris, doesn’t fit into one, so is considered a threat, and the leader of the Erudites (Kate Winslet) is on her case. “I love that Tris isn’t a superhero. She’s just a normal girl forced to be brave.”

Tris’s brother is played by Ansel Elgort, who is also Shailene’s love interest in The Fault In Our Stars, an adaptation of the bestseller about two teens with cancer. “I read the book five times. I wrote emails saying I didn’t care if I was an actor in this movie or a PA, I just wanted to get it made,” she laughs. “When I fight for a role, I fight. I’m very determined.”

Divergent is in cinemas from April 4.
The Fault in our Stars is out later this year.
