Dovizioso's 1st day thoughts in Phillip Island: "We tried three different tyres and the difference was not so big compared to the race tyre in terms of feeling and the lap time but the consistency was a bit more. I can’t say it is the right tyre for the race because the conditions are different and we haven’t made too many laps. The schedule was to do two exits on each tyre and six timed laps on each. I was able to keep the same lap time for the whole 12 laps and this is really good. It is good for the tyres but also very good for my feeling with the bike because it is very difficult on this track to keep the same lap time and I’ve struggled in all my career to do that. Today was good conditions but I am more comfortable than in the past with Ducati at this track. We are not fast enough and we need to work. I am not sure what the rest tried but the lap times are very similar.”

Felt same benefits here with bike as in Sepang
“Not the same but it is logical. How I explain where we improved the bike in Malaysia is logical to not have the same benefit here because the characteristics of this track is long corners and you need turning. And that’s what we don’t have. The feeling of the bike is better than before but the lack of turning is still there. It is difficult to drop the lap time and save the tyre but that’s always the same story. Every corner is the same here and if you are not able to turn the bike quickly it is very difficult. But if I compare the lap time to the rest, we are not in the same situation as Malaysia but not too far."
