Quick Twitter log from @lukejohnson44 on LSU Baseball:

Got the chance to talk #LSU Baseball with Paul Mainieri for about an hour this morning. He said some interesting stuff about the 2014 team.

There will be a three-man race for the two weekend spots behind Aaron Nola between Cody Glenn, Hunter Newman and freshman Jared Poché

A darkhorse to be included in that race is JUCO transfer Kyle Bouman.

Mainieri will use the first month to determine the rotation for #SEC play, said there's no difference between weekend/midweek in first month

Interesting that Glenn's 2013 didn't earn him a spot in the rotation. He went 7-3 with a 2.68 ERA. He'll have to earn it this season.

Poché, a LHP, was the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Mainieri really likes his makeup and potential.

The other is Hunter Newman, who pitched really well as a freshman, including four innings of hitless ball vs Ark in the SEC tourney

Mainieri said it's likely that the first guy to get a crack at closing is JUCO transfer Brady Domangue.

The big concern offensively is finding middle of the order bats. Mainieri said he likes what he has in Christian Ibarra and Tyler Moore.

Mainieri said Moore is slightly ahead of Chris Chinea, who is slightly ahead of Kade Scivique to start at catcher this year.

Whoever doesn't start at catcher will likely start at 1B.

Here's one that intrigued me: LSU probably won't have a freshman in its opening day starting lineup.

I thought all along it'd be Danny Zardon or Kramer Robertson to start the season at 2B. Mainieri likes JUCO transfer Connor Hale right now.

Mainieri is still looking for some things from both Robertson and Zardon. Said they'd be the first guys off the bench to start the season.

Robertson can play pretty much anywhere on the field. He's short, but Mainieri even played him some at 1B. He'll see plenty of time.

Hale was brought to LSU in case Ibarra went pro. He can play both corners and 2B as well. Mainieri didn't want to pigeonhole him as 1B tho.

@tylerbatisteTNJ I've got an 80-page magazine to put together though, and the deadline is next friday. He agreed to see me a little early

My guess at an #LSU lineup: McMullen, LF; Laird, RF; Bregman, SS; Ibarra, 3B; Moore, C; Stevenson, CF; Chinea, 1B; Scivique, DH; Hale, 2B

That's based off today's discussion. If I had to take a crack at the rotation, it'd be Nola on Friday, Glenn on Saturday, Poche on Sunday

That'd give LSU two lefties in the rotation. When was the last time that happened?

Alright, y'all are all up to date with the newsy stuff. There was a lot more though. Catch our baseball preview issue coming out Feb 11.
