Regarding the Castlevania controversy: The issue is not that the scene may or may not ham-handedly suggest sexual violation in an attempt to add gravitas to what some still see as a goofy game. The issue is not that someone finds fault in the scene’s existence or presentation. Nor is it an issue that a critic is publicizing their personal concern.

These are *the only issues* for people in a community of writers who cherry pick commentary from their least capable critics while choosing to ignore that of the smarter, non-antagonistic naysayers. These are *the only issues* when we circle wagons on Twitter to scoff among ourselves at the stupid hordes in such a way that reduces discussion to a tidy contest of progressive us and barbaric them when so much more is being said.

One interesting aspect from the dev side is the disparity in press accounts of the controversial scene. I always find it fascinating when eye witness reports differ this dramatically. As in, not that different people come away with different takes on impact, implication, and intent, but that multiple people come away with incompatible descriptions of sequences of events.
