Spider-Man is a character who has been around for 50 years.
He is indestructible.

If you think any one story can "ruin him forever," you're mistaken.
He survived Evil Disco Dancing Peter from SPIDER-MAN 3.
He can survive anything.

150+ issues of MARVEL TEAM-UP starring Spider-Man
130+ issues of WEB OF SPIDER-MAN
100+ issues of SPIDER-MAN
55+ issues of PETER PARKER: SPIDER-MAN
50+ issues of SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN
25+ issues of UNTOLD TALES OF SPIDER-MAN

15+ issues of WEB-SPINNERS: TALES OF SPIDER-MAN

And countless team books (over 8 years worth of NEW AVENGERS alone!), guest appearances, specials, one-shots, and quarterlies featuring the adventures of a Peter Parker version of Spider-Man.

50 years and THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of issues-- available in many different forms of collections-- and available digitally for sale on Marvel.Com.

I think you'll be fine. :)

"But what about the CHILDREN?!! What do we tell the CHILDREN?!!"
This is an argument I frequently hear from people pleading on behalf of nephews, nieces, godchildren, and friends' children. (But RARELY from the person who's asking's OWN children. Which, given the anonymous nature of the internet, often makes me think that these children are either made up-- or probably haven't been consulted in the matter. ;-)

And to THAT I say...
On top of the 50 years worth-- and thousands of copies-- of available back issues, there's also...

60+ issues of MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN
55+ issues of SPIDEY SUPER STORIES
20+ issues of SPIDER-MAN: MARVEL ADVENTURES
15+ issues (and counting) of MARVEL UNIVERSE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN

That's over 150 issues of Spidey comics specifically made for the wee ones-- and all featuring the exploits of a Peter Parker version of Spider-Man.

But what if you want a Peter Parker version of Spider-Man NOW?! What if your life will be forever destroyed if you can't experience all-new MODERN DAY tales of a Peter Parker version of Spider-Man?

Well, fortunately for you, there you can read NEW adventures for a Peter Parker version of Spider-Man PRACTICALLY EVERY DAY in his regular newspaper strip!

And follow his animated adventures in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN over on Disney XD (and Netflix streaming!)

AND in an upcoming major motion picture NEXT YEAR!

(Not bad!)

Oh... And on Netflix, you can watch hours and hours of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the '67 cartoon, the 80's cartoon, the 90's cartoon, and even the MTV computer animated cartoon-- amongst other gems.

There is NO SHORTAGE of content if you REALLY want to experience the adventures of a Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

I also hear he'll be represented as a giant balloon in a certain Thanksgiving Day parade. But what do I know? :-P

Hope this helps.
