[Big Bang maknae? You're wrong if you think Seungri's music is frivolous TRANS]

"You are 24 years old already." Big Bang Seungri (Lee Seunghyun) talked endlessly about his new album on love. With an image different from his 'GOTTA TALK TO YOU' performance on stage, he talked about his thoughts on his solo comeback.

After he succeeded in breaking his image in his previous works 'V.V.I.P' and 'Strong Baby', Seungri came back with a second solo mini album 'Let's Talk About Love' and declared himself a 'man'. One more thing, he participated in writing, composing, and producing of the album and grew up as a singer songwriter.

"Because I have been doing it for 7 years, I am a veteran. Though it's awkward to say it myself, but I must do it like a veteran."

What? I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He was right, but it's hard to call oneself a 'veteran.' Though he made me nervous right from the beginning of the interview with his confident speech, later, I nodded my head to what he was saying.

"I've been a singer for 7 years, so I must be able to grab the attention of the audience. I must have some pressure in order to hear rookies say things like 'Wow Big Bang, Just like we've expected' or 'Wow Seungri, Just like we've expected.'"

Though Seungri unexpectedly started working on his own album because of the busy schedule of YG producer Teddy and Big Bang G-Dragon, the experience that he gained from making his own music inspired him musically.

"To be honest, in Big Bang, instead of focusing on music, I think I've been trying to do things that other members are not doing. I wanted to make television appearances because I liked talking. I didn't think that I would be having clear activities for music. However, the experience of participating in the making of the album was a very good one."

His main concern was musical maturity. "I focused on 7-year-singer Seungri's music. Different from the images that maknae Seungri showed on variety shows, I wanted to appeal to the audience and the fans with some serious music. I also focused on the visuals. I wanted to hear people say that I've become handsome. Haha."

The fact that he is a maknae in Big Bang made him think carefully. "If I look frivolous when I sing, then my music may appear frivolous too. The reason why I must emphasize manliness is because my music would sound light otherwise. I found a way of overcoming my obstacles."

The difference between his previous work and his new album is that he upgraded himself from the image of 'a man who knows how to roll' this time. "As a solo artist, I thought that I would have to do what others are not doing in order to survive. During 'Strong Baby,' rather than getting rid of Seungri's character, I wanted to bring out the person Seungri."

Different genres of music were included in the album, but the gist of it is 'love.' "I thought of a way of showing my music to the audience, and then I thought about love. Since my debut at the age of 16, 8 years has passed, and I am 24 now. I wanted to put my stories of love and pain in the pop genre of music that I wanted to do."

I am glad to see a maknae of an idol group mature as an artist. However, in reality, though it's been long since Big Bang has started writing their own music, sometimes they are undervalued for being an 'idol' group. Different from what I had expected, Seungri, who is positioned in between and idol and an artist, was firm.

"Though Big Bang debuted as an idol, I think that we must act appropriately as a group that receives national love. Instead of saying 'We are musically artists,' I think it's right to give back to the people that love us by making songs that the audience would like, and by showing a variety of activities in broadcasting or acting."

During Seungri's activities, junior idol groups who are in high ranks like Exo, Teentop, ZE:A and Crayon Pop were intimidating Seungri's position. As the time passes, there will be more skilled and unique juniors who would be competing with him. However, Seungri said that competition has no meaning.

"I am glad to see that the juniors are making hits and doing well. The reason why I am saying that I am glad is because I want KPOP to hot up, and I want people to become happy by listening to our songs. I definitely do not have worries (about falling behind in rankings)."

I wondered if he would see it as a competition behind the scenes, but Seungri easily explained his feelings by talking about his seniors' point of view when they saw Big Bang.

"Shinhwa, god, DJ DOC said this when Big Bang first came out. They told us that they're glad and thankful that we debuted. They don't see it as a competition, but hope that KPOP will flourish. When we debuted, there were lots of artists like TVXQ, Lee Seungchul, Se7en, Wonder girls, Girl's Generation, and Rain, and I hope that KPOP would flourish like once again and become more popular."
