So @LadyGaGa at the iTunes festival - you must watch. Talk about hi art meets pop! She's literally tearing down her image and putting it back together right in front of an audience. The fact that she's being so trasparent with the putting on and taking off of wigs is a statement in itself. Poking holes in the artiface of 'image' and demystifying what's behind the curtain. That's brave in an industry that thrives on illusion. The way society wants to build something up and tear it down and reclaim it or shame it until it apologises. It's like she saw that coming and did it first. Warhol would have got this. Probably one of the smartest comments on pop culture and pop stars since Bowie who, yes I get it, she's often compared to. And listen, I get the moaning armchari critics who like to point out the references - which are honestly - DUH. That they're obvious is sort of the point really. We shouldn't be asking 'where did that come from' but 'what is she saying with it?'. What she did at the mTV awards (4 eras 4 minutes) and then this whole 'blank canvas with pop on and off wigs' performance at the Roundhouse is a joke on all of us really and I applaud, applaud applaud. LOVE HER.
