This is my last week as Editor of The Star - a job I have been privileged to hold for the past two and a half years. (republished)
I hope those who have followed me have found my site informative, enjoyable and thought provoking - difficult to achieve all the time - and in 140 characters!
Please continue to follow the new Editor of The Star when that person is announced and starts their Twitter site.
You have given me great feedback, have been challenging at times but overall supportive.
I use Twitter to try to promote what we do, what my staff do, which is excellent and especially in the tough environment we are in, and to promote thoughts about our city and sometimes national issues.
Those who want to continue to follow me, I will be looking to try to seamlessly change the name of the site, if anyone knows how to do that, you could make things incredibly easy for me. I am taking up the role as Editor of the Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post.
So lastly, my thoughts about being in charge of The Star and Sheffield Telegraph.
Staff: A wonderfully committed and professional team, with many, many years of experience who have helped to guide me to make the right decisions for your newspaper and digital platforms. They can be challenging! And often are! But they are also a dedicated team with vast experience and immense pride in the newspaper.
The Star: A great newspaper fighting for its voice among the growing noise of other publishing platforms. But loved by so many readers - and disliked by a few who like to take a snipe at it - that is your right- but we always try to do our best in reporting the news, sport and features. We outpublish every other media organisation in this region, with not only news, features and sport, but also supplements, listings, columnists, nostalgia, entertainment, people supplements, education.... the list goes on. We have to take difficult decisions every day and do this with the knowledge of our marketplace and readership. I think we get it right most of the time.
The city and region: I have worked for seven daily newspapers and Sheffield is one of the greatest cities I have lived in. It is a hidden gem that needs far more promoting than it has. From the regeneration of the city centre to the great outdoors on our doorstep, to the green lungs within the city, it is great, vibrant, modern and I will look forward to seeing it continue to develop.
And lastly, the people: Straightforward, no-nonsense and respect those who do rather than just say. I don't subscribe to the view that being an overgrown village is good. I think that breeds complacency. Far better to welcome newcomers and involve them early in helping to shape the future direction of this city.

So thank you for your support and please continue to support those who work so hard to fulfill the role that this newspaper does and this city deserves.
