Blanda Eggenschwiler's SI Style interview (Translation from German to English)

SI Style: You moved to New York when you were 20 years old for your graphic studies. Have you always known what you wanted?

B: I was really into going abroad. I lived in Paris for half a year after I completed my Matura but I knew that I wasn't gonna stay there very long. I was really fascinated by New York though, so I applied for the School of Visual Arts and even got a scholarship.

SI Style: Your name "Blanda" isn't very common. It's not a stage name, right?

B: No, I'm named after my great-grandmother. My dad was raised pretty strictly and his grandmother was the one who let him have a good time and protected him. I never got to know her though but I've seen pictures of her, she was beautiful.

SI Style: Do you have an idol?

B: I had an incredible teacher, James Victore. I kept an old notebook with his quotes in it and named it "Smart Things James Victore Said".

SI Style: You modeled before. Why didn't you keep it up?

B: After I finished school I modeled for 4 months straight. I quickly realized that it wasn't the right thing for me. I enjoyed meeting new people and learned to travel on my own. I was able to pay my rent while I was still in school that way. At the age of 17 I moved into a commune, not because I didn't get along with my parents, simply because I didn't have to travel from Brugg to Zurich every day.

SI Style: What's important to you when it comes to your outfit?

B: It's gotta be comfortable! - except shoes. Sometimes I wear heels which I can only wear from the taxi to the restaurant and back. Also, I think it's important to wear clothes that suit your body type. Over the years I've definitely learned what looks good on me and what doesn't. I love Brigitte Bardot and Jackie O. from the 60s.

SI Style: What do you do to look your best?

B: I think that a lot comes from the inside. I try to eat healthy and go to the gym as often as I can. I've been really into Pilates lately. I also use a lot of natural cosmetics.

SI Style: So what are your plans for the next few weeks?

B: I really wanna see all my family and friends here in Switzerland! After that I'm flying to Kenya with my boyfriend for 10 days. We'll help build a school together with the Charity "Free The Children".

SI Style: You probably broke a lot of the groupies' hearts when you and Joe got together. How did you meet?

B: I met him through friends as a normal guy, not as a star. I'm very happy with him and there's not really anything else to say about that. I try to keep my work and private life separated.

SI Style: You're getting chased by paparazzi now...

B: He gets chased, it doesn't have anything to do with me. (laughs)

SI Style: Are you scared to leave the house without make up on?

B: No, not at all. So what?

SI Style: What's up with those engagement rumors?

B: oh come on, there's so many rumors. I can't even keep up with them and most of the time I'm the last to know.

SI Style: The Jonas brothers were raised really religiously and were known for their purity rings. Are you religious?

B: I was raised non-denominationally. I have friends who are Jewish, Muslim and Christians. I plead for tolerance. There'd be less war on this planet was there more of that.

SI Style: Do you have a motto?

B: Yes, it's "Live in the moment". It's quite a challenge nowadays, especially with the social media. Many people think that if they don't capture a moment with their smartphone it's worth nothing. So they miss the actual moment cause of all the Photography. I gotta work on that myself!

SI Style: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

B: I wanna continue doing graphic design. It's the right thing for me. I'll probably stay in New York for quite a while. Switzerland will always be my home though, I still feel so comfortable here.

SI Style: Would Joe like it in Switzerland as well?

B: Yes, he loves it! And when I come here on my own I always have to bring him Rivella blue and Mohrenköpfe (Chocolate kisses).

DONE. It's the best I could do. I hope it makes sense and excuse mistakes. I left out some stuff that got repeated.
