Dear Council member Chan, @Elisa_Chan

Your remarks,"It’s just disgusting to even think about" and "homosexual people” should be eligible for adoption, saying they would affect “the young people." is offensive and downright disgusting. The LGBTQ community has supported the Asian American community for years and your comments has thrown a monkey-wrench in to our relations. Yes, I am not a homosexual...I was not born that way, but that does not give you the right to insult or degrade anyone because they were born the way they were. More than a 100 years ago, your people came to the U.S. to seek a better life. Many came as indentured servants, but tried their best to make this country better for the next generations...which includes you and me (though I am Japanese American).

Your people faced:

Yellow Peril Page Act of 1875, the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, expanded ten years later by the Geary Act. The Immigration Act of 1917 then created an "Asian Barred Zone" under nativist influence. These anti Chinese violence led to rape, murder, torture and unfair labor practice as well as unsafe working conditions like the racist: Chinaman's Chance

The Chinaman's chance originated from the early 19th century potentially from several events. One explanation is that at that time, Chinese migrant workers in the U.S. were sent into mines and construction sites to ignite dynamite, potentially with disastrous consequences. They were also lowered over cliffs by rope and boatswain's chairs to set dynamite to clear mountain and other obstructions to make way for the railroad construction. In this work, if they were not lifted back up before the blast, serious injury or death would result. Therefore the phrase a "A Chinaman's Chance" may have been coined in this context.

You were never considered a human being and forget about adoption. So by discriminating against the LGBTQ community, you are doing to the LGBTQ what the white man did to your people. Don't stoop to their level, because, by betraying the LGBTQ community, you will abandon everyone and they to you.
