RT this pls. Since starting all this research, digging up things about tabloids and the paparazzi, I always wondered how exactly did they make their money? What keeps all these webloids in business? We all know money keeps the stalkerazzi in business and driven to get that "money shot", but how do these webloids actually make their money? You don't have to enter a credit card if you click on one, you can just click on it, read it (if you like being lied to), and get off the site. Someone is paying the stalkerazzi - they wouldn't be out there stalking and harassing all the celebrities for free - their main driving force is greed, and will tell you so IF you can corner one. So thanks to some very hard work and information from a group of very informed ladies, they have given me some answers. I could not have written this article without their help. However, due to some recent internet bullying, I'm only printing their nicknames to protect them. In the future, once things cool down a bit on Twitter, I will let their true identities be known, but for now, to protect them, it's nicknames. Huge thanks to LA, K, Robsten Cuteness, Holly, EWM and N for helping with the research and for making the tabloid calculations make sense!
First I'll let you know about a ranking system, called the Alexa ranking. This ranking system is used by all websites, but is used by advertisers & ad agencies to let them know if that website is a good site for their advertisements. Alexa ranks almost every site in the world according to content, popularity, amount of hits, etc. 6 months ago, Hollywood Life's Alexa ranking was 10,000, and now it's less than 3,000. Sites with an Alexa ranking of 10,000 and under are considered good sites for advertisers to place their advertisements. As you can see by their Alexa ranking, Hollywood Life is, unbelievable as it may seem, actually getting better according to their Alexa ranking.
We'll start tallying the money made by a webloid by comparing two articles from Hollywood Life, both of them posted on Aug. 2nd since we already know it's ranking. I'm NOT going to post a link for these articles, as they've gotten enough clicks from us already, from gathering information for this article, and I'm NOT going to post any of the content of the articles. It's all lies anyway - the only reason these articles are in this article is to figure out how much money they made from these two articles. The first article is about Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. The title of this "news"? Justin Bieber Gets New Rose Tattoo: For Love of Selen Gomez? According to HL, there were 26,000 page views, and there were 5 advertisements on that page. So multiply the page views by the number of ads, and you come up with 130,000 hits. The average click rate (a calculation that's very complicated that advertisers use - you don't want to know) is 2%, and the average payment per click is $1.50, they come up with a profit of $3,900, on that ONE story.
The next story we'll calculate is: Kristen Stewart's & Riley Keough's Tense Face-to-Face Showdown. According to HL, there were 45,000 page views, again with 5 ads on the page. The calculation? 45k x 5 = 225,000 "hits". The CTR (click rate) again is 2%, and again the average payment per click is again $1.50, and they come up with a profit of $6,750 for THAT story. This wasn't even a new story! This was just recycled old stuff, yet they made almost $7k from that story. So HL made a profit of around $11k on only 2 of the many stories they ran on Aug. 2nd. Not a bad profit day for kicking back in that comfy office chair recycling old lies, is it? And that's only for TWO stories of the many they ran that day! Did you all notice that the old story about Kristen Stewart almost doubled the profit amount of the Bieber/Gomez story? No wonder Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have so many stories made up about them! They're great for the webloid & tabloid bank accounts!
The next webloid we're going to "debunk" is Gossip Cop. Many people are still going to this webloid to see if any of the stories they'd read in the other webloids or tabloids is true or not. Do you still need another webloid to tell you? Some still do, but look at the name of this site. GOSSIP Cop. It's full of gossip just like any other webloid, only much worse. Why? Because every article that Gossip Cop mentions, or "debunks", gets hits for being mentioned in Gossip Cop's "debunking" articles, no matter if it's negative or being debunked. A hit is a hit, and hits equal money.
Gossip Cop is actually part of a network, Abrams Media, and are holding a few more websites. The advertising "opportunities" are usually relevant for all of their sites. GC's Alexa ranking is around 10k, also considered very high.
GC's ads work a bit differently than HL. From the research LA did, they get paid in several different ways, but for this article, to make it a little easier to understand, she's sticking with the cost per click. Remember in May when GC informed their readers that they broke a record with 21million page views for that month? This is why they were so happy: Again, there are 5 ads per article. LA converted this to hits, and came up with 105Million Hits in May. The click rate is a bit lower than HL, because HL uses Google Ad Sense and GC only uses Google Ad Sense in some countries (those parameters CAN change and get higher). Payment per click is $1.50. After doing the math, GC made $630k in profit by letting people know that tabloids lie. That is $21k EVERY DAY for the month of May that GC made, from people clicking on their stories to "make sure" the story they already know is a lie, is indeed a lie. OF COURSE IT IS - IT'S A GOSSIP ARTICLE!
Take note of the record-breaking month again - it's May, when all the nonsense about the Rob and Kristen "break-up" began. Most of the stories on GC have very few comments. Rob and Kristen comment boards? The number of comments can run into the thousands. No wonder they broke a record in May! Rob and Kristen "broke up" again! X-17 said so! LA believes it would be safe to say that the Rob and Kristen stories GC "debunks" make up around 25% of their profits. Now that I know more about the calculations used? I completely agree with her.
I hope everyone reads this and finally realizes that we are the ones that are making Rob and Kristen's lives so hard, with no normalcy at all. We are the ones causing them to be stalked, harassed, taunted, etc. With that much money at stake? No wonder X-17 and FlameFlyNet stalks them! That's a lot of green, isn't it?
I also hope that everyone realizes that soon (and it's already starting - believe they're together or not) the "back together" articles are going to start back up. A few already have, since Rob was caught by a stalkerazzi leaving Kristen's house a few days ago. Whether you believe they're together or not, PLEASE don't click on these stories! The tabloids or webloids will spend a lot of those profits on hiring the stalkerazzi. We all know how both Rob and Kristen feel about the paparazzi. If you are a true fan, don't click on these stories - don't help the tabloids pay the paparazzi. Please help bring some normalcy back into their lives. Thanks for reading, PLEASE take this to heart, and as always, peace out. Misty. Pls RT this alot - ppl need 2 know what they're supporting by clicking on those sites. Thank you.
