WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A BABY SWIFT:

Swifts are not fed by their parents when they leave the nest. The first time they leave the nest, they will be fully independent and remain in flight for the next 2-4 years until they return to breed.

If you find a grounded baby swift, it is in urgent need of help.

Firstly, put it in a safe, quiet place. A covered, ventilated box is good.

Check it's age and weight against the chart: http://www.swift-conservation.org/age_and_weight_chart.pdf

DO NOT FEED THE SWIFT

A FEW DROPS OF WATER MAY BE GIVEN WITH A BABY BUD

DO NOT TRY TO RELEASE THE SWIFT

It can be many weeks before a young swift is ready to be released. During this time, it will eat thousands of insects and as swifts are obligate insectivores, they MUST be fed with the correct diet. Incorrect diet can cause deformities, feather loss and may even kill the swift.
