Statement about Mark Carney's latest announcement on #banknotes: we welcome the shift in rhetoric. Carney's announcement that the decision to remove women from our banknotes will be reviewed is a positive step forward, as is his revelation that he discussed the issue on his first day in office. He is clearly taking this seriously, which makes a refreshing change. However, the battle is not over yet. We still have no firm guarantee that women will remain on banknotes. We also have no firm guarantee about the Bank's future public decisions being made under the auspices of the Equality Act. Until we have these, the fight continues.

We will be gathering outside the Bank at 11 on Friday morning to hand in the petition signed by over 30,000 people; we will be coming dressed as great women from history, so that when the Bank meets on the 17th July they are under no illusions about the strength of feeling on this issue, and know that there are plenty of women to choose from. We remain hopeful that this can be dealt with without having to seek redress in court.
