OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING THE RECENT PEACE MEETING BETWEEN THE NATIONALIST MOVEMENT AND THE DEMOCRATIC RIGHT MOVEMENT

This statement is the final outcome of relations between the NM and the DRM.

This statement is made public due to the fact that the original conflict was public.

Background to the meeting

Due to working together on a project with a member of the DRM which can’t be discussed publically, the member offered a chance for both movements meeting to work out a peace deal. The NM accepted as conflict between the movements is damaging to the cause. The appeal of having a larger presence on the street was also very appealing.

Outcome of meeting

The meeting was attended by myself John Kavanagh and Michael Quinn on the 11th of June at a undisclosed location in a pub. The talk started with him asking was the conversation being recorded, I lied and said no. I actually showed him my phone and said look it’s not recording. Within three minutes of talking to Quinn it was made clear that he was there to fight me, beat me up and then go after other NM members. I was perplexed that he was the only person there, how could he possibly make that happen? He tried to assure me he could do it. I deflected the conversation in an attempt to work out the issues, most importantly the Emma West event of the 3rd of January.

Michael continued speaking his own fantasy world of what happened. I had a print out of things we could work on and he was ticking them off that he not going to do this or that and he was getting increasingly hostile and insulting.
He must have forgotten he wasn’t behind a monitor anymore. He was getting increasingly aggravated and was getting up to physically attack me, I was having none of it, I flipped his coffee into his face, got up and punched him in the face. The fight was on, the mission for peace failed. I deflected his punch, dragged him over the table, I gave him another punch. Gave him a chance to get to his feet, surprisingly he came at me with his two arms in the air like he was coming to strangle me, I grabbed them and overpowered him easily to the floor.

He had a hold of my t-shirt as he went down. This is taking long to type but actually this is only about 15 seconds in to the fight. He knowing that he is now at a complete disadvantage he bite into my left arm, held on and squeeze tighter with his jaws. The fight took a different turn and now I had to fight like a dog was biting me. I supplied a number of punches to his head while bar staff was coming over and sheepishly calling for an end to the fight. I had to put the thumb of my right hand in to his left eye socket to force him to let go. The staff said this is not the place for it, that there are children here. I didn’t see any children but I took his word and said to Michael who was stumbling to his feet that this is not the place to fight (you can hear this in the recording).

Michael was fuming and was ready to go at me, I kept in a fighting stance. He hesitated on getting closer. I was glad, I didn’t want the fight to continue at that location, in front of staff and other people and the law enforcement will be upon us at any moment.

I was handed my bag and jacket by the staff, I thanked them and left, to be honest, feeling great of giving Quinn a few smacks after all the insults and attacks of the past few months and at the same time, slightly embarrassed of being in a public fight hoping that I didn’t cause too much aggravation to the staff in the bar.

I knew that the Gardai would be called so head to my car further up the street, turned around at a petrol station, heading back down the main street to a quieter location. I actually seen Quinn wondering like a loon, all huffed up and angry, jacket and hair all messed up.

He texted me and I replied that I’ll meet him in a few minutes but he got napped by the cops. Not surprising, he was wondering the street like a mad man.

I would like to stress that I don’t support violence, like violence and especially in a public place and more so in a place when people are trying to run a business. I don’t look for violence and wouldn’t have met Quinn in such a location if I knew he was there to fight. I only defended myself, I had no choice. While I did gain some satisfaction out of this, not surprising considering the lies and insults directed towards me and my family, I don’t condone violence.

This was a personal matter between myself and Michael Quinn, the Nationalist Movement itself has no involvement in the events of yesterday.

What was learned

1. The actions of the Emma West event and the days leading up to it and after were not a great plan by Quinn to try and remove me from the movement. Instead it was a series of misinterpretations. Basically he believed that my demand for tactics was due to panic, it wasn’t, it was just common sense. My questioning of his planning abilities annoyed him.

2. My email where I said he is forcing us into a difficult situation (meaning not implementing tactics, planning etc) but that we’ll (myself and a few others) attend and stand by him was taken as he forcing us to attend and that I didn’t want to. That was incorrect, I wanted to attend, all I wanted was better planning but without it I would still attend.

3. Michael Quinn admitted (which you can hear on the recording) that it was he that cancelled the event. Previously he lied and said that it was me that cancelled it.

4. Michael thinks along the lines of turn up, get the shit kicked out of you for the cause. I think along the lines of prepare, prepare and prepare, turn up with the best possibility of winning, losing is not an option, losing would damage the cause. Use tactics, don’t fight battles you can’t win – only do so if there’s an important outcome. I already had an idea that Michael thinks in a backwards manner.

5. That Michael Quinn is an idiot and is clueless to the reality of many events.

6. That Michael Quinn is very angry by the events after the DRM split such as the decisions I made etc. He’s too stupid to understand that after the night of the 3rd of January 2012 the DRM was in my control and that it was later renamed the Nationalist Movement.

7. He thinks anyone who can’t afford to get beaten up, can’t afford to lose their job or take time out of work or their business shouldn’t be taking to the streets. (again heard in the recording). This falls back to my concept of thinking verses his. He believes in getting beaten up and so be it, I believe in winning, picking your battles and getting beaten up is a failure. However I do understand that is a possibility when taking to the streets, but for fuck sake don’t welcome it.

8. That Michael Quinn doesn’t like coffee in his face.

9. That he is extremely weak which may suggest a health problem.

10. That he resorts to biting during a fight.

Conclusion

Any contact with Michael Quinn only serves to pull the person meeting him down to his level. The DRM is Michael Quinn, he believes in total control of the movement, unable to accept compromise and certainly not criticism.
While a man’s health is his own business I feel in this situation to point out that Michael Quinn suffers from a mental order that shoots him off in mania or severe depression and he often speaks of doing “God’s work”, demons etc. His mental state combined with his pig headedness makes him unsuitable for any leadership ranks. I point this out so that people know what they are getting in to before putting time, effort and money in to his organisation.
Growth of the nationalist cause in Ireland has been hampered by his activities. Even his broadcasts are just the same old repeating over and over again.

The best solution is to break off any contact with Michael Quinn, publish the truth about the DRM and move forward.
The NM will not be making an effort to close the DRM, just to publish the truth and to isolate them (while Quinn is leading). The remarks about the DRM does not reflect on other members of the group.

What Michael Quinn's reaction seems to be

Quinn was humiliated by the outcome of the meeting and actually tried to cover it up by not mentioning it in his broadcast. He seemed even embarrassed by his biting of me, the actions of a desperate man. He is probably more embarrassed that he didn’t even got a punch in. For further reaction ask Michael Quinn himself.

Reaction from John Kavanagh

I am totally gobsmacked by the lack of reason from Quinn. He was there for a fight or maybe he just said that as part of his weak attempts at intimidation. He is neither strong nor intelligent with his gift is to rant, rant and rant some more. This man is an embarrassment to the human race and to his family too I’m sure. Any contact with him could force one down to his level, down to the ‘Jeremy Kyle guest’ types.
