So often I find myself saying "Oh wow" as I read something in the news. This article is one of them. I have admired Leon Panetta and his service, but for him to criticize Congress for not showing respect: wow. The President has set an example of disrespect for Congress, Republicans in particular, for a long time.
If I were a Republican member of Congress and I heard a lecture from the Executive Branch about the proper way to conduct politics, I would listen in disbelief, then just tune that lecture out. The White House and its representatives have no standing to tell other people how to conduct themselves, as their own conduct has been unbelievably partisan, propagandistic, and denigrating.
Let's not forget, either, that the sequester was the White House's idea in 2011. With the help of sympathetic media, the Executive Branch manages to blame upcoming spending cuts on House Republicans.
