Okay So this is gonna be a long ass post about seungyeon being casted okay

So most korean dramas these days are casting idols because of the hallyu wave. In other asian countries, idols are more popular than actors and so in order for Korean dramas to be also a big hit in other Asian countries like Japan (which bring A LOT of $ for korean drama makers), they cast an idol member. That way they increase their possibility of that drama being a big hit in other asian countries and thus the $.

But in Korea, most korean netizens get PISSED when they cast idols. They say that most idols suck at acting (which could be true I guess, all depends on your opinion but set your bias aside) and they say that when idols are being casted in a drama, they "steal" opportunities from younger, rookie, or underground actors/actresses that are talented. Which tbh is the truth if you look at it in a certain way. So like rn, it only has been like 30 min since the news of Seungyeon getting casted and most of the comments are the articles are all bashing her and how she brings the quality of the drama down and stuff.

So this is where it gets kinda tricky I guess? So when Uee first was getting casted into dramas, most netizens were like bashing her all the time, saying that her acting sucked, etc etc. But then she kept getting casted eventually from smaller roles to bigger roles and then now her acting has improved so now she gains more positive reception from netizens.

And then there's the case like Eunji from A Pink. So you know how most of the cast for Reply 1997 was for idols? And it was a lower budget cable drama. Nobody really expected for that drama to be such a huge hit cause it was like a cable drama made for idols so the cast they did a good job acting and with the plot line so they were able to overcome the "cable drama/mostly for idol cast" stereotype I guess. What Gyuri is filming with Thunder is similar to this. It's a cable drama and the two main characters are idols. Pretty ppl who will be watching her drama is a fewer number of average ppl and mostly kamilia and mblaq fans. There'a chance that her drama will be a huge hit like Reply 1997 (which I really hope so) but like what's different is that people have lower expectations for her drama?

But then for Seungyeon, she's getting casted in what seems like a fairly bigger role in a non-cable drama with top class names Kim Taehee and Yoo AhIn. People had high expectations for this drama and then they hear that seungyeon was casted? so most netizens are like "WTF WHY KEEP CASTING AN IDOL" cause most expect her to suck at acting and you know that idol stereotype.

This is why I'm worried I guess. Because lbr, Seungyeon's acting in Salamander Guru was very cringe worthy. I mean like 90% of Kamilia are aware of her awkward acting. And from the articles it seems like her role is pretty big in the later half of the drama so like Seungyeon's going to have a huge pressure for herself. It's not a small role if the articles are true so she's gonna need to step it up if she doesn't want to ruin the quality of the drama. So what I'm PRAYING TO GYULSUS for is that seungyeon practiced lots and her acting improved so that she can overcome the idol stereotype. Like if her acting isn't good people will bash her and bash her and it will ruin her reputation to the general public which is really important. If she did improve and is a good actress (it's been like an year since salamander guru so it's possible?), although she is getting bashed now, she can prove people wrong and as a result she'll be way more popular because dramas are incredible when it comes to boosting general public's popularity.

SO YEAH THAT'S WHY I'm just pessimestic OKAY and this is a fucking long ass grammar mistake full essay OKAY BYE I LOVE SEUNGYEON I HOPE SHE DOES GREAT
