Eddie Murphy’s Star Studded Tribute - To air on November 14, 2012

First, let me pay homage to Mr. Murphy’s legendary career. I’ve watched all of his movies and can say that I am a huge fan. I apologize, in advance, for this rain on his parade but I can not hold back what I need so desperately to say concerning Russell Brand’s defamatory remark concerning Mr. Michael Jackson.

“Michael Jackson is a genius, and you have to separate their genius from their hobbies, I’m just saying $20 million is a lot of money to give to a child he didn’t f***.”

What Mr. Brand SHOULD know is the Michael Jackson molestation jokes doesn’t go over well with most audiences’ except for those who wish to continue the smear campaign against him. Words are very powerful and leave a lasting effect upon those who listen to them and especially those who have an itching ear for trash, such as the debri Russell Brand left behind during the tribute taping.

I am certain that there were those present who thought it was funny because they have made some of the very same crude jokes about Michael, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tArmHN4j3qQ of which has been viewed by 960,068 people, and then I'm sure there are those who were in attendance who didn’t think the joke was so funny. For those who agree that the joke was not funny I applaud you.

Mr. Jackson is no longer here to defend himself and when he was living he chose to ignore it because of the severe emotional injury people like Russell Brand had already caused him. It would be nice if celebrities would stop acting long enough to do some research before they start making jokes about people. Some of you could be next. I wonder how your family members would feel.

I believe it’s morally wrong to defame the character of any deceased person. They are NOT here to defend themselves. Defamation offends the deceased’s relatives; it exposes the family to public hatred, contempt, ridicule; it blackens the memory of their loved ones; and it provokes a breach of peace between people. A breach of peace such as this one. Many fans will respond to Russell Brand’s outrageous remarks against Mr. Jackson and we will be called rabid fans, of course. Be that as it may, we will defend Mr. Jackson’s legacy by protecting and preserving it at all cost. Mr. Jackson has children, parents, siblings, friends and fans that still love and admire him very much. He may be gone but not forgotten.

To mock a man who is not here to defend himself is reprehensible and cowardly. Comedians get away with mocking those who feel powerless to openly rebuke those who publically offend them for fear things will get worse or they pray that people will soon forget about the joke. Mr. Jackson and others like him have been mocked enough and it is time for it to STOP.

Mr. Brand should take a look at the man in the mirror staring back at him and figure out who it is he’s looking at. He would know it’s not a pretty sight and realize that he will never be able to stand in a pair of Michael Jackson’s shoes. Michael Jackson would never mock Mr. Brand or some of the others who have mocked him on their standup comedy shows. In fact, he would never mock anyone and especially on a national television station. He was a gentleman. www.cadeflaw.org exists because of people like Mr. Brand and we intend to fight to get this law passed to give the deceased family members a shot at people like him in a court of law.

I ask, respectfully, that Russell Brand's comment be removed before the show is aired on November 14, 2012. It is very distressing to think something as foul as that could be connected to a tribute for Mr. Murphy who was a very good friend to Mr. Jackson. I do not believe Mr. Murphy would approve of such a comment. Mr. Brand's statement was out of order and very much defamatory.

Respectfully Submitted by:
MJ Brookins, Cadeflaw Administrative Director
