Sure, Lindsey. I empathize with “:(”! I was hoping to present a different perspective than what was presented in the vimeo. My intention is to encourage a positive perspective that does not view “classical” pilates as “outdated” and as always, to encourage cooperation (i.e. reduce the divide) between teachers.

In my opinion, the development of this perspective requires a commitment to a code of ethics between teachers. As I agree with the PMA’s Code of Ethics (“8. Treat clients and colleagues with respect, truth, fairness, and integrity.”), I do wonder why Rebecca’s comments towards those whom she labels “Members in good standing of the Flat Earth Society,” go seemingly unnoticed, but this is actually nothing new. I recognize her viewpoint as a marketing tactic, not as truth. Btw, part of the reason I left the PMA was because its 2006 Position Statement suggested that the work of Joseph Pilates was “outdated.”

As I wrote in my blog comment: "My passion is to inspire teachers of the method to stay on the path to 'complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit' as Joe Pilates encouraged us to do." This does not, as Rebecca suggests, exclude the study of other modalities or perspectives. In fact, I find quite the contrary. I am a “classical” pilates proponent, in fact, I am only and still ever more so after over thirty years of practice and complimentary study. I'd like aspiring teachers to hear this viewpoint as well.

Joe's statement, "There IS a reason", to me, points towards practice of the method being not only a personal process, but, also, ultimately, a greater community effort.

Thanks for taking notice, Lindsey, and inviting me to say more!
Cheers!
