TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING: TROPICAL STORM “OFEL”
(SON-TINH)

ISSUED AT 5:00 PM, 24 OCTOBER 2012

issued at 11 PM today)

TROPICAL STORM “OFEL” HAS SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED AND IS NOW CROSSING LEYTE PROVINCE.

Location of eye/center:At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “OFEL” was estimated based on satellite and surface data in the vicinity of Ormoc City, Leyte. (11.0 °N, 124.6 °E).

Strength:Maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph

Movement:West Northwest at 22 kph.

Forecast Positions:Tropical Storm “OFEL” is expected to be at 70 km Northwest of San Jose, Mindoro tomorrow afternoon and will be at 450 km West of Iba, Zambales by Friday afternoon.

Biliran Island, Camotes Island, Capiz, Aklan, Boracay Island, Northern Cebu, Bantayan Island and Northern Negros,Dinagat Island

#1:Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Burias Island, Southern Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Group of Island, Batangas, Lubang Island and Cuyo Island ,Northern Samar, Antique, Iloilo, Southern Negros, Southern Cebu and Bohol,Surigao del Norte and Siargao Island


• Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal (PSWS) #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and
landslides likewise those living in coastal areas
under signal #2 are alerted of possible storm surges

• Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 20 mm per hour (moderate - intense) within the 450km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

• Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Eastern Seaboard of Southern Luzon, seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao
due to the combined effect of theTropical Storm
“Ofel” and the Northeast Monsoon.

• The public and the disaster coordinating councils
concerned are advised to take appropriate actions
and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today.
