The prepared remarks of U.S. Rep Connie Mack IV as provided by his campaign:

“A year ago I said the most important thing Florida could do this year is to defeat Bill Nelson. I was wrong. The most important thing Florida can do this year is elect Mitt Romney President and elect a Republican Senator who will work with a new President to finally pass a budget, reduce spending, undo needless and burdensome regulations and repeal ObamaCare.

Tonight, the election has begun in earnest. Florida’s Democrats have chosen Bill Nelson as their nominee. And I am honored that Florida Republicans haven chosen me as theirs.

Our success tonight wouldn’t be possible without my family and friends, especially Mary and my parents. I can’t express enough how much their love and support mean to me.

Our success also wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and dedication of scores of volunteers and supporters around the state and the hard work of my staff. Thank you, Team Mack!

This is now a clear election about principles. This is a race about policies and what kind of nation we are and will become.

The choice for Florida is clear and it is stark. Do we continue down the Obama-Nelson path of more taxing, more spending, more government and less freedom? Or do we ignite America’s comeback with the time-tested policies of less taxing, less spending, less government and more freedom?

Bill Nelson voted to raise taxes 150 times. Bill Nelson was the deciding vote for ObamaCare. Bill Nelson has voted with Barack Obama 98 percent of the time.

It's a clear choice and I am confident Florida will choose Mitt Romney and give the new President a Senator who he can work with and who shares his values. We must give Mitt Romney a new Senate majority and the nation knows the 51st seat depends on victory in Florida. And with that victory, we will move America forward.

The experts and the polls show this race to be very, very close. Some polls show Bill Nelson ahead by a couple of points. Some show me ahead by a couple. Some show it absolutely tied.

The one thing we do know is this race will be decided on principles and policies. And on that ground, I am confident of victory.

In the spirit of debating our differences in principles and policies, I call on Bill Nelson to accept a minimum of three debates -- the first to be held as soon following Labor Day the political conventions.

We are now two and a half months away from our next victory celebration – the night we will celebrate the defeat of the LockStep Liberals, the victory of Mitt Romney and a Republican majority in the United States Senate.

It will be my honor with your help to be a member of that majority in the U.S. Senate.

Between now and then we’ll continue to take our message and our campaign to every corner of our great State.

Together we can win. Together we will win. And together we will reclaim and renew the American Dream.”
