For the record, my brother & sister-in-law are police officers. I am, therefore, shocked, saddened and humbled every time I hear that a police officer is hurt or killed in the line of duty.

Yes, Jerry Barber is just a character on a tv show - albeit a much beloved character played by an amazing actor (Noam Jenkins). But as much as you expect us to entertain you, it wouldn't be right or honest of us to tell only the positive stories - the stories where the good guys always win and our characters get to sleep soundly in their beds at night. We'd be doing you a disservice if we didn't also illustrate the real-life sacrifices that often have to be made by the women and men in this noble profession.

There are numerous police officers who have guided us on our Rookie Blue journey (my family included), just as there are countless fans who have watched faithfully week after week.

So please believe me when I tell you that we didn't do this to get good ratings or to mess with the people who helped us get here. We did it because we're telling police stories. The good and the bad. The triumphant and the tragic.

We are a tight-knit family here at Rookie Blue. Which means we laugh, cry and grieve right along with you.

We appreciate your support immensely and we thank you for taking the ride with us.
