Youth Contract Preferred Bidders Announced

Nick Clegg has announced the preferred bidders for the £1 billion Youth Contract, commissioned through the Education Funding Agency (EFA).

The programme, which will commence delivery in August, will engage at least 55,000 16-17 year old NEETs over the next 3 years who are at the highest risk of long-term disengagement. It is intended to improve their experience and qualifications, to give them a better chance of finding work, and to reduce the proportion who become unemployed in adult life. The programme gives providers freedom to address young people’s individual needs, and is funded through a payment by results approach.

The breakdown of preferred bidders by geographical area is as follows.

Manchester and Cheshire – Groundwork
East Midlands – Groundwork
Merseyside, Lancashire and Cumbria – Groundwork
East of England – The Consultancy Home Counties Ltd
North East – Pertemps People Development Group Ltd
South East (A) – Skills Training UK
South East (B) – Skills Training UK
South West – Prospects Training Services (Gloucester) Ltd
West Midlands – Prospects Limited
Yorkshire and the Humber – Prospects Limited
