** Starting in 2005, NASCAR started creating and publishing a performance ranking (a Driver Rating) for each driver, for each race, based on 15 different scoring categories such as running position at various points in the race, the number of quality passes (within the top-15,) laps inside the top-15, laps led, etc. This Driver Rating is a good indicator of how a driver performed for an entire race, not just how he/she happened to finish. A perfect Driver Rating is 150.0 points. NASCAR This Week’s Realistic Driver Rating Average (RDRA) is an average of NASCAR’s post-race Driver Ratings with fluke performances excluded from the average. If a driver was involved in an accident or had an engine blow, that fluke Driver Rating was excluded from his average. NTW believes, therefore, that our Realistic Driver Rating Averages are more “realistic” in predicting driver performance than the purely statisical averages everyone else uses, if you can even find someone publishing Driver Rating averages in the first place.
