#Syria: Full report about the continuous general strike in #Damascus city and its suburbs for Thursday, 31/5/2012
Protesting and condemning the horrendous massacres and atrocities the regime continues to commit, the general strike continued in Damascus, which witnessed a general strike that included the largest and best commercial souks in the city. The strike included:
1] Medhat Basha Souk
2] Al Hareeka
3] Al Souf Souk
4] Al Qumash Souk
5] Al Saroujeh Souk
6] Bab Srejeh
7] Burj Demashq
8] Khaled Bin Waleed street
9] Al Qanawat
10] Al Halbouni (Al Maktabat Souk)
11] Bab Al Basha Al Electroni
12] Al Sen'aeyye area (Hosh Plus)
13] Al Fahhame (Al Mawasem Souk)
14] Al Soukeyyeh
15] Qaber Atakeh
16] Zuqaq Al Jen
17] Bab Musla (Al Tabreed Souk)
18] AlSalheyye (Al Juma'a Souk)
19] Al Mawazeene
20] Al Zuhour district
21] Barneyyeh
Also, the Souks of Meedan districts joined the general strike:
1] Barzeh
2] Al Shaghour
3] Al Qadam
4] Al Asali
5] Al Sena'a
6] Bustan Al Door
7] Al Hajar Al Aswad
8] Daf Al Shoq
9] Al Zahra
10] Naher Esheh district
11] Al Tadamun
And several other Souks and streets.
Amongst what is documented is the shut down of all the shops in the commercial building (Masah Mall) which is located in the most well-known district in Damascus (Al Malki street). Employees and civilians shopping instantly evacuated the building, then regime's security and Shabiha (thugs) forces entered the mall, carrying weapons in order to terrify families.
There is an unbelievable presence of regime's security forces specifically in Al Hareeqa area and generally in Old Damascus. They broke the locks of the shops who joined the strike and forces the owners to open their shops in the Souks of Old Damascus, like Al Hamedeyye and Al Hareeka.
The following incidents have been documented:
1] The breaking of the locks of Al Hareeka shops; reports say a number of shop owners were arrested
2] The breaking of the locks in Medhat Bashar Souk
3] The breaking of the locks in Burj Demashq area; regime's militias also banned anyone from entering or leaving the area
4] The breaking of locks of the shops that joined the strike in Al Asali district
5] Breaking into shops in Khaled Bin Waleed street
6] The breaking of locks in Kufr Suseh district
7] The breaking of lock in Al Salheyyeh area (in Souk Al Juma'a)
8] The breaking of locks in Al Qadam district
9] The invasion of Asem Souk in Naher Esheh in an attempt to end the strike.
