"Happy" meat/dairy/eggs, etc. have *nothing* to do with the happiness of animals. They have to do with happy humans who pat themselves on the back because they, unlike others, exploit with "compassion." The sad thing is that these "happy" products are promoted by large animal groups who claim that "happy" agriculture makes things better for animals now.

This is wrong.

First, the difference between a "happy" product and a conventional product is, at best, analogous to the difference between being waterboarded on a padded waterboard and being waterboarded on a bare waterboard.

Second, the promotion of "happy" products by animal groups reinforces the notion that we can morally exploit nonhumans as long as we act with "compassion." Putting aside that "compassion" is one of those words that can mean anything anyone wants it to mean, we *cannot* justify using animals as things, as human resources, irrespective of how "humanely" we treat them (and the most "humanely" treated animals are still being subjected to what amounts to torture, made to suffer great stress and distress, and killed).

Third, the whole "happy" exploitation movement is encouraging people to continue to consume animal products.

The "happy" exploitation movement is doing nothing for animals now and it is ensuring that people won't think seriously about the issue because "animal people" have told them that they don't have to worry as long as they consume with "compassion"--and contribute to the large organizations.

I do not mean to make a judgment that those who work in the large groups are acting insincerely. I am sure that many of them believe sincerely in what they say. I just sincerely believe that they are wrong.

If you care about animals, the matter is simple: go vegan.
