Details of SNP talks Re Rangers "TOP SECRET" - DR today
TALKS by the Scottish Government about crisis club Rangers have been marked “top secret”, it has emerged.
The SNP believe they are so sensitive they could wreck relations between Holyrood and Westminster.
Discussions were held between ministers, who have pledged support for the Ibrox club, administrators and HM Revenue and Customs.
First Minister Alex Salmond and Sports Minister Shona Robison were involved.
But a freedom of information request about the talks has been denied because disclosure “would be likely to prejudice substantially relations between the Scottish and UK Governments”.
When asked why, a spokesman said Salmond spoke to tax officials in January. He added: “The discussion centred on securing a settlement to enable Rangers to meet their obligations to the taxpayer and continue in business.”
