He fumbles around before finally finding his phone and hands it to me. I dial Donovan’s number and it barely rings before he answers without even saying hello. “We are at the airport bro. has anything changed?”
I’m so irritated but I don’t want to be mean. He is just worried about me.
I say, “Yeah things have changed and you better not get on that plane.”
He tries to speak, “But Sherri-“
I interrupt, “You listen to me. The doctor said its best for me not to get upset and as much as I would love to see you it will upset me very much if you come home right now. James has everything under control and I won’t be the cause of Constance’s tour and video being put on hold.
He tries again, “But Sherri-“
I stop him, “I’m fine. The babies are fine. There is no need for you to come home. I love you both.” And before he can say anything else I hang up.
I hand James his phone back and he is looking at me appalled. As he takes it it starts to ring. Before he can do anything I say, “You answer that and we are going to have serious problems. As a matter of fact just turn it off. We have a conversation to finish.”
I’m still not sure why I’m so agitated when the nurse comes in, “Sorry honey but your blood pressure is starting to get high again. We are going to have to give you something to calm you down.”
I stop her, “Is it going to make me sleep? I don’t want to sleep right now.”
She smiles, “No it will just calm you down. The doctor doesn’t want you sleeping right now unless it’s on your own.”
She injects something in my IV and excuses herself. I look at James but before I can say anything he says, “I really need to call Steph and check on the kids. Am I allowed?” he smiles.
I breathe an irritated sigh, “If you call Donovan I swear I will never speak to you again.”
He leans down and kisses me on the forehead, “I wouldn’t dream of it momma.” And leaves the room.
He is gone for what seems like forever and the medicine is starting to kick in. my mind starts to slow down. He comes in stopping just inside the door, “How are you feeling?”
I start laughing, “Oh I feel great. I’m really calm now so you can tell me the truth. You called Donovan didn’t you?”
He smiles, “yeah I would say the medicine has kicked in. you were ready to rip my head off a few minutes ago. I promised you I wouldn’t call him and I didn’t but I also promised I wouldn’t lie to you so I will tell you the truth. I called Steph just like I said and had her call him.”
I start laughing and he walks over to the bed, “Wow.” He says. “We are going to have to get them to send some of this stuff home with you. Okay let’s get serious and finish our conversation.”
I try to act serious but can’t stop giggling. “Okay.” I giggle. “Let’s get serious.”
James rolls his eyes at me and laughs sitting down on the bed next to me, “Here is what I know. I was putting the kids to bed and you were on the back porch. I heard you scream and immediately heard glass shatter. I ran to the back door and it was shattered and the phone was lying broken in the glass. I walk out the back door and you’re passed out. I couldn’t get you to wake up so I called Steph who had just left. While I was waiting on her I loaded you in the car. The minute she got there I rushed you here. I called an ambulance but they still hadn’t gotten there by the time we left. So what happened? Do you remember anything at all?”
