This @hockeyagentdad post on the hockey media is an interesting read, from the Ayn Rand foundation to the bomb tossing. http://bit.ly/znE5e0 A few reactions:

1. His argument about how the Web has forced media into sloppy, rushed habits is spot-on. Ditto the "firsties" thing that trumps publishing the best or most complete story. Except in rare cases, Twitter has killed the scoop.

2. His argument about reporter bias is treated as a revelation when it's both obvious and insulting.

It's obvious that media are human, and approach stories from perspectives crafted from personal experiences, predilections and politics. It's 2012; suspicion about the media is as much as part of media consumption as paywalls.

It's insulting that he equates inherent bias with an inability to be accurate, factual and objective when one's professional calls for it. (Lets toss the judicial system out with the bathwater as well.)

3. "Management folks" seem to really, really lead reporters astray according to Winter; thank goodness player agents never do.

4. Pass It To Bulis, which he slams for a Hodgson report, is a blog. Identifying it as a home for opinion would seem important in a tirade against reporters.

5. No one hangs out at water coolers anymore thanks to instant messenger, smoke breaks and under-staffing.

6. I will never tire of anecdotes about how wrong everyone was about Dominik Hasek.
