21st Dec 2011 from Twitlonger

Warning: This is probably going to be a really long tweet, so please indulge in my indulgence. I also make an announcement in this tweet that's big news (for me). Others may not care that much about that, or have figured it out already, so I'll try to bury it amongst the other stuff.

Today (Wednesday), there's been a few tweets from people hoping to add new followers in the name of charity. As expected, some people praise the idea while others deride it as a cheap stunt to pad their totals, when they could just make the donation quietly and move on.

At the time of this tweet, I am 10 away from the "milestone" of 10,000 followers. Obviously, I greatly appreciate anyone who made the choice to click on the follow button. Thanks also goes out to Black Friday, Daniel Negreanu and the World Series of Poker for various surges of followers. I'm well aware that your timelines can get a bit clogged at times with the barrage of tweets that come from my keyboard on what seems to be an endless basis.

Fortunately, the numbers continue to trend upward, indicating the information I'm able to provide and the questions I'm able to answer are of some use. Either that or people can't find the unfollow button.

This "milestone" could easily have been topped weeks ago if I decided not to block the numerous spam, porn and various promotional accounts that decided to follow me. Those type of accounts are just an annoyance and add nothing to my experience of interacting with people on Twitter.

I'm as guilty as the next person for promoting (and at times it goes overboard) certain people and events, but that's because I care about them. There's the occasional comments, but I try to varying degrees of success to tone it down.

Announcement time: I'm going to Australia January 12-31st. Yay for me.

Twitter is a wonderful tool that can be used in a variety of ways. Fortunately, it's really worked out for me in ways unimaginable when I started actively using my account nearly three years ago.

If you don't like the way someone uses it, you can just stop following that person or block to your heart's content. Obviously, you can also add your own thoughts to the discussion as well. Everyone does like a good Twitter debate.

Like I warned earlier, this would get a bit indulgent, so if you got this far, congratulations! It's over.

Now back to your regular conversations.
