NEWS RELEASE:re Daily Telegraph falsehoods and Matthew Newton.
On Sunday 4Dec 2011 Matthew Newton was involved in an incident with a taxi driver in the presence of witnesses it will be resolved by a court.I will defend it there and in the meantime he is presumed innocent.
Today the Daily Telegraph reports re the taxi driver incident 'the night before he was seen hanging out in his old haunt Kings Cross starting with a dinner at Mexican eatery Barrio Chino with long time lawyer Chris Murphy'
THE FACTS
1.I have never been to Barrio Chino.I have no recollection of having dinner in Kings Cross in the last 20yrs and have not drunk alcohol since the 1980's.I rarely go out at night.I did not go out on Saturday night.

2.The defended court matter occurred on 4TH DEC.The only time anyone went to Barrio Chino was one week later.

3.On the 11TH DEC a group of 9 children between 5-11yrs went, after a birthday party at Fox Studios, to Barrio Chino (I believe Mexican) at the suggestion of one of their mothers.

3.There were their 4 mothers and one father present for the meal. All parents were older than Matthew and are the parents of my children's school friends. Matthew Newton who attended the party, played with the children during the day. They are fond of him.He carried a 5yo down the street on his shoulders afterwards. There is no media photo of that.

3.Matthew came home to my place with two of the parents and their children after dinner. It was late and stayed at my house in a spare bedroom. He does not and has never lived with my family.

4.There is a photo in the Daily Telegraph article saying 'dishevelled Matthew Newton in Kings Cross on Sunday'.The juxtaposition of the photo with a negative article and falsehoods is misleading. Matthew Newton,I am informed stood outside the restaurant to smoke a cigarette(If I had been there I would have counselled against it).'Dishevelled'? It had been a long day with the little ones.I was exhausted at home.

5.The Daily Telegraph's Paul Kent once called on people to bash Matthew Newton. It had serious consequences for him.

6.The newspaper has said Matthew Newton has 'been living with'me since leaving hospital. It is not true.I have spoken to him daily at his home by phone. He has lived at two separate apartments since being discharged. It has been said 'he barely speaks to his mother'.It is not true. That was written just days after he had spent a fortnight at his family home in Melbourne.

I am concerned for Matthew Newton. He has mental illness. The publication of untruths makes his journey to recovery harder. The Court case will be resolved appropriately. It helps no one having media bashing. It is not open season on people with mental illness.
