Regarding #SoFurry Chat...

DigitalMan was part of a team of coders that worked on the chat script for 1.0. Like every coder who works for SoFurry, he volunteered his services, contributed his time and resources to developing the product -- however the product in question is not exclusively his own. People, such as Toumal and MJTF, helped code the script and improve its functionality. Regardless of who came first, who contributed the most, or who contributed what, the chat was the result of a team effort, period.

There is no denying the fact that DigitalMan contributed to the chat, but I cannot stress enough the fact that the chat is not exclusively his, and his for the taking. The very fact that he would go through the trouble to dispossess the site of a widely used feature -- that several people contributed their own time and resources to -- is extremely selfish if not illegal under the False Claims Act (31 U.S.C. §§ 3729–3733).

The DMCA complaint process has been abused and overused for trivial and, quite frankly, ridiculous purposes. This is one example.
