@TriadCW So this is what you mean by ship wars?

Yesterday, I wrote you members of the Gossip Girl elite a response to what I have been seeing on the show, and a response to an article that I read online about the ratings for Gossip Girl. Since I took the time to write it, of course I wanted people to read it. So I posted my review on Twitter and on two different forums.

The largest response that I have received has been on twitter, so I wanted to take the time to address the comments made to me.

Before I do that, I think there is a need to clarify who I am. I am a college student who is a fan show. Who I am not is a member of the media who is paid to promote a certain storyline, and I am not a participant in these so-called “ship wars.”

To address the negative:

To the “Dair” fans, who have not been particularly rude (on twitter anyway) I would like to take the time clarify a few things.

1. I am not saying that everyone hates Dan and Blair.
2. I am not saying that you cannot like Dan and Blair.
3. I am not even saying that I particularly hate Dan and Blair.

What I am saying is this:

1. I don't care about Dan and Blair.
2. I find it impossible to take their relationship/friendship seriously.

A comment made to me on one the forums where I added my review, stated that Josh Safran said that “Dair” has been four years in the making.

With all due respect to Mr. Safran, “Dair” may have very well been four years in the making, but I, a member of the audience, did not see that. All I saw was Chuck and Blair, very directly, and Dan and Serena, not as direct as Chuck and Blair, but still present. How was I, a member of the audience, expected to know that Dan and Blair were his true intention? I believe that if Mr. Safran did make that statement, it was either misunderstood or taken out of context because that simply makes no sense. Why would Dan and Blair be his intention when all he has shown his audience, until very recently, is everything but Dan and Blair?

I will also address a comment made to me by more than one “Dair” fan. That comment is, in a nutshell, relationships change.

I have already responded a few times and will say it again. I agree with you that relationships do change. My argument is about the storyline. I invite you to all step out the context of your ship war. Do not think of me as the captain of the “Chair” or “Dan and Serena” army. Take some time to understand what I am saying.

Since Gossip Girl is such a hot button topic, I would like to discuss Pride and Prejudice instead.

Imagine if Jane Austen would have spent the majority of her book building the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Then in the last (or second to last) chapter, she took a hard left and began writing that Mr. Darcy was actually in love with Caroline Bingley all this time. I don't know about you, but that would leave me confused about what the whole point of her story was.

I do believe that some people would like it, just like all of you like Dan and Blair. I would place a fair bet that majority of the audience will feel disappointed and confused.

To address the positive:

To the “Chair” fans who have been supportive of my review. Thank you for all of your kind comments. I am glad that I was able to articulate what you feel but did not know how to say. I know that I spent a lot of time addressing the negative, but really, negative comments only amounted for about 10% of the feedback that I received. The the majority of the comments were very nice. My advice to you is just relax. You must remember that Gossip Girl is not just here to tell a story. They are also in business to make money. They are not just going to give you what you want just like that. They want to keep you watching and get their money's worth. My guess is that unless that writers and producers of this show plan to provide the worst pay-off and biggest disappointment in television history (doubtful), they have a plan of showing us the point of this Dan and Blair story arc very soon. Remember Blair is very likely pregnant with Chuck's baby. If Chuck and Blair were truly over, they would not have done that.

To the Gossip Girl writers and producers. Thank you very much for writing a producing this show. You have entertained me greatly. Once again. None of my comments were intended to be rude, just truthful. I will ask once more. Please give me something to care about, and do it as soon as possible.

Thank you. =)
