Access to higher education for Americans has become more difficult financially and in many cases, impossible. At a time when we are rebuilding our economy, with an eye to the future, we need more trained people, with fresh enthusiasm and new ideas, entering the workforce.

Fortunately, the Health Care and Education Act provides funding for an additional 5 million students through the revised and reformed Pell Grant program. Directly funding student loans saves the program more than $68,000,000,000 over the next 10 years and allows graduating students flexible, affordable options for repayment and credit for work performed in underserved communities.

At a time when available funds to invest are at historically low levels and the need for a creative, well trained workforce is essential to our economic future, the timing for this important funding bill couldn't be better.
