The doors to the Boston Police Department Display the City Seal of Boston. It reads “Civitatis regimine donata AD 1922, Bostonia Condita AD 1630, Sicet patribus sit Deus nobis,” which translates “City Status granted by the authority of the state AD 1922, Boston founded A.D. 1630, God be with us as he was with our fathers.” Owing to the difficulty of the question, the date 1822 is acceptable as well, for reasons that lead us to the Bonus question.

There are several incorrect features, the first being that the motto, by law, should be the lettering at the top of the seal, and the center should display the city of Boston rather than ships in the harbor. As noted above, Boston was granted city status in 1822, and the seal is also missing the wreath detail.
