We are http://www.911ruff.org our shelter out of $ not because of mismangement but because of Gulf oil spill. The BP oil spill and its aftereffects have had a profound and negative impact on our community. Uncertain about their own economic security, people have stopped donating. We opened a thrift store to try and keep shelter running. Even thrift store sales have also dramatically decreased. RUFF filed a claim for assistance from BP in October and our contact with BP leads us to expect that we will be paid. Payment is taking longer than we have hoped or expected, and reserves have dried up causing our dogs at shelter to be in danger of no where to go except the only shelter to take them is a kill shelter. Since many of our dogs are 4 years and up (& seniors) .. their fate at a kill shelter is euthanization immediately since they are shelter dogs and not strays. They will not be given the few days to be claimed by owners. BP was to pay our claim in 90 days which was originally applied for in October. We were denied emergency funds & had to reapply for help that they claim they received Dec 8 2010. March 8 was 90 days. Still nothing. We have managed to keep shelter open with help from wonderful people going on 5 months. They too have depleated their funds as well and can no longer help. Plz plz help us stay open just a little longer to await payment from BP. There is no one to help us by adopting or fostering. No one has offered shelter until we receive funds from BP. Don't let our sweet precious dogs (who are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm free & healthy) and ready for a home die at kill shelter simply over a huge British Corporation trying to "hold on" to their money who was "ordered" to pay claims to those affected by their oil spill. These dogs deserve a chance for a nice loving home. They have waited patiently and have been fully vetted and done nothing wrong but have a horrible first of their lives from people who threw them away like old shoes. They are wonderful loving precious healthy dogs that just need time to find a home.

We need $ help to keep doors open until we receive funds from BP. We can go no longer without your help. We need food, power, water, cleaning supplies. You are our only hope and the saving grace for these dogs & our shelter.
