Just sent this IM to a team mate at Eat Sleep Play as we've been debating KILL ASSISTS and KILL STEALING in the new TWISTED METAL game. Thought it was worth sharing as- over the years- I've full embrace the Beginner's Mind/William Godlamn 'Nobody Knows Anything' -approach to iterative game design:

'Until you implement a mechanic, so much of game design is just fun theory/philosophy debate. 90% of the time, the way you thought a game mechanic would cause a player to respond doesn't end up causing that behavior at all!'
