First time I have to use TwitLonger... @kirkhamilton talks about Bulletstorm (http://bit.ly/i4C4wS) and I just can't help but respond.

A game never clicks with everyone. Believe it or not, but there's a reviewer who gave Red Dead Redemption a score of 75/100. Fair enough. It is great for customers - who spend their hard earned money on music, movies, books and video games - to have multiple sources helping them shape their purchase decisions.

I mention this because I am under the impression that Bulletstorm did not entirely click with Kirk. I might be wrong, but certain clues - e.g. Kirk is, I believe, the first man who does not seem to believe the game is really OTT - suggest I got this right.

And that is totally fine. I know it's very obvious thing to say. The reason I say this is because of what I am about to talk about next.

There are certain things in Kirk's preview that I would love to discuss in greater detail, hell, to argue with/against. But that would be a very silly thing to do it, even sillier than that time in my life when I wanted to become a politician. I hope that one day we can meet in person, have a couple of beers and discuss gaming for hours - but for now, let me just address ONE thing only.

Kirk writes: "[...] it seemed pretty clear that People Can Fly had simply grafted some provocative language onto a fairly derivative scoring system with the hope that it would attract controversy and media attention".

Now this hurts. Like, seriously hurts.

With all due respect to the media of all kinds, nothing in Bulletstorm has ever been done with them in mind. Nothing.

There were only two things that we cared for when making anything in the game:

1) Do we feel it's fun? Do we care? Does it make us giggle?
2) if yes, do we believe that (at least some) gamers will react the same way?

That's it. Nothing less, nothing more. Epic is a company that believes in talent, not chart flows and checkboxes, and we are eternally grateful to the mothership for letting us - and helping us - make the game we always wanted to make.

Like Bulletstorm or not, just please remember - it's all from the heart.
