Here is a poem I wrote this AM.
There was a time when
I could not see the beauty in your heart.
I labeled you many things
that could never describe who you truly are.
I feared getting what you have
not knowing that what you had is love.
I hid behind a sermon of ideas
and terror filled rhetoric.
I persecuted you with no care
to the attention of your humanity.
I sought to love you & hate your sin,
to justify my own sin for challenging your humanity.
I did all I could do
To keep you at arms lengthen.
By the grace of God
You were brought in to my life.
I am the better for being part of you.
The fear has receded and now peace remains.
I no longer count myself as your judge
But I embrace the honor of being your friend & ally.
I left the elect, the righteous and am part of a nation full of hope.
You have blessed me with healing, acceptance and love.
I have witnessed the turning of our anger in to action.
I have witnessed the turning of our frustration in to compassion.
I have witnessed the turning of our hurt in to peace.
Justice knocks on our doorstep and fills the coffers of our hearts.
Our day is near.
A day when compromise no longer reads as losing.
A day when equal rights are the status quo for all.
A day when the dynamic fearfully wonderfully made creation of divine architecture is gathered in unity, love & peace.
Queer Nation! You are beautiful.
