A How-To Guide to WikiLeaks Media Blitz (commencing tomorrow 10:30am - 1pm). #Adelaide #wikileaks #Assange #cablegate

Hi all, sorry for the late instructions for the media blitz. If you received this late, it’s absolutely OK to do this the next day at 10:30am, or even the day after. As long as you pitch in :)

So it’s 10:30am tomorrow, and we need to keep this simple to have some impact and ensure everyone pitches in.

It’s only a 30 minute time commitment per person, but if we do this right we might make a little splash to promote our rally on the 15th.

So there’s only a short list of people to contact, and it would be great if we could contact them all in order according to your name.

If your last name starts with:
A-E, start at No. 1
F-K, start at No. 2
L-Q, start at No. 3
R-Z, start at No. 4

If you start at No. 3 for example, continue on to 4, then go back to do 1 and 2.

Targets:

1 - Leon Byner talkback
>
8223 0000

Call in and leave a short comment, write it out before hand so you know what you’re saying and mention the rally! They often let you plug things!

2- ABC 891 ‘the soap box’ talkback

Now the soap box has an sms, but please be brave, do both and call in too, calling is much more powerful. If there’s a lot talking about this, maybe don’t mention you’re going to plug the rally, but just think of an issue to say, then when you get through tell the producer what you want to talk about.

Call in: 1300 222 891
Sms: 199 22 891

3- Call your local member

Don’t bother with emails, they get generic responses. Actually google your local member, get their number, pick up the phone and talk to them for 3 minutes about your concern and invite them to the rally.

4 – Bulk Email (most important)

Using the BCC (so they can’t see you’ve sent it to heaps of places like spam), send an email to all of these addresses, and any others you can think of.

Write something very short in your own words. When I mean short, I mean maximum 160 words. This is because: 1. There are letters to the editor in this list and that’s under their limit for publication, and 2. Because people don’t want to/have time to read an essay! I know I don’t ;)

After writing your message, write your full name, suburb (or address), and even leave your phone number incase they want to verify you wrote it, as an australian citizen. (some papers check you off on the electoral roll to make sure you’re actually from Australia!)

It should basically read something like (and it’s almost better if you’re not using the fanciest english you can possibly use) :

An example (please do not copy this, it will be useless to send in the same message):
I’m deeply concerned about our government’s lack of support for wikileaks. Sure there are some things that should be kept a secret, but overall, the kind of transperency that wikileaks is delivering is absolutely fantastic for democracy. It’s the media as it should be! I’ll be at the next rally in Adelaide to support wikileaks on the 15th Jan, victoria square to show my support. I think the media has a role here to stand up for freedom of information too by supporting Wikileaks against the US attacks on the organisation.
