In light of the tragedy that took place this weekend in Tucson - some congratulations are due.

Congratulations to those who believe that their values are so superior to their neighbors that any and all consequences that befall the non-believers are righteous and deserved.

Congratulations to the NRA who continue to believe and support the notion that every single citizen of this country should have access not only to firearms, but to the most powerful, awesome and lethal firearms that we can create. Your great slogan - Guns don't kill people, People kill people - continues to be true. But thank goodness all those people who do so want to kill can get those guns. It would be so much harder for them to kill people without them.

Congratulations to Rush and Sarah and Glenn and Sean and Demint and all your friends and colleagues for the call to arms to take action. Yes, the Tucson shooter is a deranged loner - but you gave him purpose and direction. Bless you. Just don't go spoil it by distancing yourself from the call. You got what you wanted - celebrate.

Congratulations not only to Fox (so-called) News but to all the major media outlets. You've got something to run with for days, if not weeks. You'll talk to the families, the witnesses, the speculators, the experts and you'll dissect and proffer and exploit the hell out of this mess. It will all be in the name of getting to the bottom of it, so it won't seem too sensational. But please don't bring the dialogue down by focusing on mental health, gun control, the marginalization of the middle class, the penal system, the justice system, our education infrastructure or any of the many topics that directly relate to wanton, senseless acts of violence and desperation. Instead, just interview people who can tell us that the shooter was kind of a loner - quiet. That's the stuff we need to know. And for God sake, please create some re-enactments so we can really understand and appreciate this thing.

In the end, reader/friend, I know that this is likely to be the mad act of a lone, sick man. We have had such men and such acts, always. But I do fear that our media, our internet, our health care system, our educational system, and the alienation we have thrust onto each other because of our desperation and ideologies - are going to create more such tragedies.

I pray I am wrong. I will never be happier to be wrong. And I offer prayers and sympathies for the victims of this horrible act. Good people have been taken away and lives ruined - for nothing. In my final prayer for the night - I pray that in the end, this was for something.

Hug your loved ones tonight. Take care.
