@deonnasayed @WhoForted I question the "cultural beliefs" and "academic" explanation simply because I've rarely if ever seen any of the major paranormal television stars talk about culture or academia, either on the shows themselves or at their $250 Beyond Reality meet and greets...where there is almost exclusively a lack of academics present. If anything, it is quite the opposite. They talk about hunting and communicating with ghosts, not studying anthropology. Mainstream science, also, is usually said to be "not open minded enough" to the possibility that the paranormal exists. I used to believe the same thing. Having been of that mindset in the past, it is clear, at least to me, that what is being marketed is bad science and the reinforcement of beliefs even in the absence of evidence.
