Like S, I see people supporting $ony, promoting the album, saying we must "get him to #1" and that the media must give good reviews. Some are using those Arno Bani photos Michael strongly disliked (so much so that he forbade Bani to release them publicly and destroyed the negatives) to do it.

And I know Michael would not approve of any of this were he alive. When he was alive he spoke (or acted) against it all! Yet HIS voice, HIS actions, HIS wishes - the only ones that *should* matter - and were made very clear - are ignored in all of this. Why?

His legacy is already written. HE wrote it. He is ALREADY #1. Nothing $ony/estate releases now will change that nor is it necessary to 'secure' positions in entertainment and music or on charts that Michael already secured when he was alive!

WTH?

Do you know what this is really about for most of these fans? It's about THEM - not Michael. They are worried the media will slam the album and/or it won't be #1 on some charts - and that will "make Michael look bad".

Well, that can't make Michael look bad for two reasons:

1. It isn't HIS work - the album was produced and distributed by estate/$ony/Riley et al and;
2. As mentioned above, Michael himself already wrote his legacy and was #1 before he died. No new album or video or anything else is going to 'make' him something he already IS.

So what's left? What is this REALLY about? Two things:

1. Fans that fear THEY will look bad if their idol doesn't make charts and isn't lionized in the media re: the album. Because it can't make Michael look bad - that point is moot. So it's their OWN EGO insecurity at work here. Their own self-worth is threatened by potential bad sales or ratings or reviews or charts in regards to this album. It's a PERSONAL affront to them. It's about their own ego insecurity, not Michael.
2. Entities ($ony/AEG/estate) want to make sure that they can generate and perpetuate a steady profit stream off of Michael's name and work now that he's dead.

To sum it up, insecure fan egos & money/profit-making off of his death are what's left.

I'm not wanting to slam fans for buying it but that is really what it is about in most (not all) cases.

I do have friends who bought it for other reasons (ie: not because of their egos and not because of charts or because they're afraid of what the media might say) and I respect that.

But for many of them, it's about their own egos and about THEM looking bad - not Michael looking bad, because the latter is impossible. It's their own egos and their own insecurity driving them to patronize vulturous entities - so they can feel good about THEMSELVES. It seems to be a form of co-dependency and it is disturbing.
