Discovered 1906 Jan. 23 by A. Kopff at Heidelberg. Named for the town in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese where Zeus {see planet (5731)} had a famous temple with a celebrated statue by Phidias {see planet (4753)}. The statue was reckoned one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. At Olympia the Olympic games originated in 776 B.C. (Z 182)
however, 59-Elpis, at one point, was named Elpis and Olympia--
