Choline is HUGELY important for proper metabolism of good dietary fats which are CRITICAL for cancer prevention. If you don't eat animal proteins of any kind including eggs, beef liver, chicken, turkey or salmon or any good animal fats then you're probably deficient in choline and may have cancer in your future.

Choline is VITALLY important for proper conditioning of your body's 100 trillion cell membranes. "Bile, which is made in our liver, has the primary job of making fat compatible with water, so that fat-based substances can get transported around the body in the water-based world of our blood. Choline has very similar fat-modifying effects in the membranes of our cells. The fat-modifying properties of choline allow our cell membranes to operate with greater flexibility in handling both water- and fat-soluble molecules. Without choline, many fat-based nutrients and waste products could not pass in and out of our cells." http://bit.ly/b7Nnod

Although the body's cells require many nutrients, it can be argued that perhaps the single most important nutrient that is transported by your blood & essential fatty acids to your cells is OXYGEN. As Noble Prize winning MD, PhD, biochemist & the 20th century's most notable physiologist Otto Warburg proved in 1925, normal non cancerous cells make energy by means of a process called oxidative phosphorylation, which is a fancy way of saying normal cells need to breathe oxygen in order to produce energy.

Warburg also proved that ANY tissue cell can be made cancerous simply by reducing oxygen flow into the cell by 35% over a period of time. Warburg found that once a normal cell is starved of oxygen it usually dies, but some of the tougher cells, in an effort to survive, switch to a process of glycolysis, the fermentation of sugar, to make energy and live on. As Warburg proved, once a cell switches to glycolysis it can never be returned to respiration of oxygen no matter how much oxygen is supplied, the cell continues in this new state to de-differentiate, the mitochondria become inactivated and inert, and provided sufficient sugar nutrients these the new "dumb" cells begin to replicate, proliferate and thus become cancer according to the classic definition. http://bit.ly/ajdPjS

So how does choline fit into the cancer prevention picture? Several ways are immediately apparent:

1. By conditioning your red blood cells bi-lipid membranes, oxygen is able to more easily pass through the membranes and bind with the iron in the red cells. The cells are able to load up with and carry more oxygen to the other parts of your body, and as Warburg proved, maintaining a supply of oxygen to your body's 100 trillion cells is the critical factor in preventing cancer. Cells that are supplied with plenty of oxygen can breathe normally and DO NOT become cancerous, so more oxygen to the cells means more protection from the cell ever becoming cancerous.

2. By working with your body's bile in metabolizing the good fats in your diet, including any good omega 6 & 3 essential fatty acids that you may be taking that are also necessary for proper configuration of your cells bi-lipid membrane structure, the fats become water soluble and are more readily transported to all parts of your body, all the way down to your body's tiniest capillaries and even the remotest parts of your body, for instance to the marrow deep inside your bones that are responsible for producing the blood cells your body requires. This ensures the delivery of choline to all the body's cells, providing the membrane conditioning that all the body's cells require to ensure proper oxygenation, nutrient supply and distribution throughout the body and proper removal and transport of wastes and byproducts of cell metabolism for elimination from the body.

3. Choline is also necessary for proper genetic, neurological and metabolic pathway signaling, aids in reductions of C reactive proteins, homocysteine, chronic inflammation, and on & on.

Near the bottom the article says "Food Source Analysis not Available for this Nutrient", but I found an excellent list of the highest to lowest choline content foods here: http://bit.ly/egsvr4

Bottom line: choline from animal sources is tremendously important for good health and especially for proper conditioning of your cell membranes which helps to make your cells more resistant to becoming cancerous.

I want to thank WHOLE FOODS for the EXCELLENT nutritional information that can be found on their site, I am amazed every time I go there & never fail to learn something new.
