@notch Here's a (long)compiled list of a bunch of ideas of mine(though people contributed to some)! Anything that says the skin isn't made yet, I(or someone else) should have ready soon.

Pigmen

Pigmen are a sentient race which live in villages. Their intelligence can be compared to early humans(stone tools, etc.). Perhaps, the longer a village is around, it can expand, as well as the technology(tool materials) they use gets better(stone -> diamond). They are more agile and intelligent than iguanapeople/iguanamen/lizardfolk, though weaker.

Their village architecture is medieval europe, though more 'tribal'(mainly wooden buildings, not stone).

Snowmen.
Skin: Being worked on.

Snowmen are a race of large yeti-like creatures, twice the size of players. They live in large igloos in Tundra biomes. They can hurl snowBOULDERS at players, as well as eat them if they are almost dead.

Manbearpig.
During the day, they search for caves/dark areas to sleep in. If you get within a 4-block radius while they sleep, they become hostile and attack. They snore very loudly. They are often found guarding ruins, and arrows deal 1/2 damage to them because they have a very tough hide. At night, they hunt friendly mobs as well as other hostile mobs(and the players). They can break through weak fortifications such as wood/doors.

Much like the pigmen, these are a sentient race. They tend to live in swamps or forests. Their intelligence is much like the pigmen, but their weapons are superior, as well as their health(more warlike/aggresive).

Their village architecture is mayan/aztec.

Right click - Throw
Left click - Melee attack

When thrown, the item is removed from your inventory and you must go pick it up to use it again. The melee attack is slightly weaker than swords, but has a longer range.

Wolves
Hostile

They spawn in packs of 4-8 and hunt during different times of the day, depending on when their last hunt was. They usually have one 'alpha' wolf in each pack, who is slightly bigger than the rest.

Raccoons
Peaceful

At night, they spawn within a radius of chests. They can make small holes in walls and such and take 1-2 items from the chests. If attacked, they drop the items and flee.

Goats
Peaceful

They generally stick to mountains & high elevations. They eat items which the player drops(any items except harder metals/rocks items).

Bears
Types: Regular(forests), polar(tundra), panda(?)

Roam around, mainly near shallow rivers/streams. The more food you carry, the easier they spot you(and charge). If you attempt to flee, they will chase you. Much faster than the players.

Most of these could be limited to certain biomes, which could add needed diversity.

Some other ideas that aren't mobs are simple things such as making steam appear(not just a sound) when lava and water meets, random ruined/abandoned villages/buildings, easter eggs(example: creeper shaped island, mojang symbol on the side of a mountain) in the map generation(rare), and fences that keep animals/mobs inside even when you go far away.
