Bruce Bochy C, Ron Washington IF, Charlie Manuel OF, Joe Girardi C, Ron Gardenhire IF, Joe Maddon C, Bobby Cox IF -- the eight postseason managers were all position players. San Diego's Bud Black is the only current skippers/former pitcher to have success in the managing game and the Toronto Blue Jays are close to announcing they will give former hurler John Farrell the reins.

Farrell, however, is different. He's had experience in scouting and player development as well as coaching in multiple facets.

This is an interesting hire to say the least,if it goes trough and the club makes it official, one that has a few rival clubs impressed that the Jays did not discount Farrell because of the above stigma.

As one NL assistant GM emailed PI this morning, "The AL Beast just got Beasty-er."
