Please Read & RT. This is My son's true Autism story...Pri: My son was born with autism. He was in his own world. They stated he would never talk and I possibly would never be able to hold a "real" conversation with my own child. I was devastated, but refused to believe that and busted my azz to teach him what the school system would not! They sent him home one day using sign language and I nipped that in the bud day ONE! Since I was an artist and interior designer, through art, I taught him how to speak. Through visual association, I taught him comprehension. He began drawing sketches of city subways at age 3 & created his first Flash based animation series at age 5, while still unable to hold full conversations. He is still an artist to this day.

I never allowed my son to abbreviate words and I made him pronounce every single letter. I was the "Queen of the Flash Card" I used flash cards everyday to teach him. His brain was a sponge and I refused to let it "dry out". Eventually he was holding full conversations and at age 7 his sentences went from moaning and saying the occasional "j-j-j-juice" to (and I quote) "Mother, I do not believe this situation is relevant to me. The circumstances do not allow it!" His wording was impeccable! Everything I had taught him had been filed in his head like a computer! I was so happy!

Apon entering high school, he was placed in Special Education. The school dumbed down his work and taught him shop skills over academics. I struggled really hard to teach him outside of that (Math, History, English, Global Studies), so that he would not fall behind. My son had dreams and goals that he wanted to fulfill! I was told by a school principle that he would be "fine" receiving a cap and gown and an IEP diploma upon graduation, but an IEP diploma is nothing more than a "CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE"! He can't get a job with it or go to college with it. In fact....he would have to get a G.E.D. after H.S. to get a standard diploma! Many parents are unaware of this.

Despite resistance from the school board, I fought against them, so that he could take all standardized tests required (It becomes a battle when you mess with their "money")! My son worked HARD to become the top in his class and to study for those test. They were very overwhelming, but I worked with him and I had faith.

Today he passed ALL of his standardized tests! He will receive a standard H.S. diploma like everyone else upon graduation and will not be hindered by autism or anyone else stating he can not achieve his goals! I am so proud of him! I chose to share this with anyone dealing with Autism or just anyone willing to listen. Hope is just a flash card away! Remember that! This is my son's story. Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
